Meet KidsKolor – Big shapes, big joy, big impact

In a world filled with tiny details and overwhelming pages, KidsKolor brings back the beauty of bold, simple coloring.

Based in the Netherlands, KidsKolor is the creative brainchild of Sofie Meijer, a thoughtful designer with a passion for making coloring more accessible—for everyone.

Sofie started her journey with a simple observation: most coloring books on the market were either filled with hyper-detailed patterns or designed only for very young children. What was missing were books that offered clarity, ease, and fun—especially for two groups close to her heart: young children learning their first words and adults who feel overwhelmed by intricate designs.

With that in mind, she created KidsKolor, a growing collection of themed coloring books featuring large, friendly illustrations of everyday items—from bakery treats and fruits to vegetables and more. Often paired with simple words, each book gently supports early language development while offering a relaxing experience for colorists of any age.

Q&A with Sofie Meijer

Q: What inspired you to start making coloring books?
“It came from watching both children and adults struggle with what was available. Little ones needed simpler visuals to help them learn new words. Adults needed something calming, not overwhelming. I wanted to create something joyful that respected both groups.”

Q: Why large images?
“Because they’re more welcoming. They make it easier for children to recognize what they’re seeing and for adults to relax without straining their eyes or stressing over tiny details. Big doesn’t mean basic—it means approachable.”

Q: Are there more books coming?
“Yes, lots! I’m currently working on themes like farm animals, nature, clothing, and transportation. Each book will continue to follow the same clear, supportive style that’s become the heart of KidsKolor.”

Q: Who are your books for?
“Preschoolers, toddlers, early learners, and adults who want a simpler, more relaxing coloring experience. I’ve also heard from teachers and speech therapists who use the books in classrooms and sessions, which is incredibly rewarding.”

Q: What makes your coloring books stand out?
“They’re simple by design—but never dull. I take a lot of care in choosing themes and visuals that spark curiosity while keeping things calm and clear. It’s about creating a space to slow down, learn, and enjoy.”

The Road Ahead

Through KidsKolor, Sofie Meijer is building more than coloring books—she’s creating a bridge between learning and relaxation, childhood and adulthood, imagination and calm. With more books on the way and a growing community of families, teachers, and color-lovers, her vision is simple: make coloring easier, friendlier, and more fun for everyone.

In a world that’s often too busy and too loud, Sofie’s big, bold pages are a gentle invitation to pause—and play.
